Drama Analysis
In this blog post i will be looking at a specific drama and analyse how the drama is structured through three dynamic parts.
First i will look at characters analysis in this episode of eastenders we many different scenes where we see multiple characters of the cast confronting one another from what i have seen in this and many other episodes it is the difference between the genders by this i mean that men are seen as weak and brainless often making a fool of themselves or stumbling words seen as the lesser of the genders as we see in one see a discouraged character is drunk and stumbles hurtful remarks to hurt another character however the female reacts and leaves as they lead the scene with there emotion and you feel more for her being a young adult.
Women in dramas are the ones in control of all situations often withholding information from the public but being able to use the information at there gain for the correct time often more women are seen battling for that information by confronting one another and are seen as the character we love to hate in one scene one character is upset about a man but another female wanting to take control will often ignore them or change the subject discoursing another female making her snap and therefore feeding information to another character. In this particular episode they touch on sensitive areas such as same sex relationships putting some complex issues in and putting the plot in the hands of two female characters driving the scene but she needs to make choice either staying happy or thinking of her family putting her in the eye of society and choosing which path to follow.
A drama is open narrative meaning that it is spoon fed to the audience in many sequences through out the course of the plots initial run over time the plot will become more focused upon and have sub narratives around the main narrative in this case the narrative of a two women with families choosing to come together as a gay couple and who it will effect around them whilst also showing other families struggling with other issues that could be reproached at a later date of the plots run once this main plot point is finished.
Going back to the characters most dramas are built on a community of diverse characters mainly showcasing multiple families in a relatable area of the world that we in-vision as a normal society with regular areas that people in the world as most likely to converse and relate to one another in this case we see this in social areas like bars, pubs, cafes and homes these are to simulate as much realism as possible so we can relate to these characters. This is seen throughout the whole episode where the shots are filmed in multiple houses and areas of the community,
Finally the technical elements of the show include two key things lighting and timing as we see in this episode a lot of the areas that are filmed are dark and hardly lit this is to signify tension in the scene with shots focusing mainly on the confrontation between characters it mainly focuses on the emotion on the characters face with close ups and mid shots with the use of shot reverse shot when both characters confronting one another on a specific debate they have mixes between shots reverse shots and also over the shoulder shots to get the point of view of a characters view to drive the narrative of the plot. Back to timing when a scenes come to a close it then switches to another home leaving the previous scene but then switches between multiple areas of the community. Only digetic sound used the only non-digetic sound is the final scene where the outro comes into the works.
